The Central Islamic Committee of Thailand has been developing Thai Halal food products steps and the Halal Standard Institute of Thailand mutually signed a MOU with Halal Certification Services of Switzerland (HCS) for strong building the Halal industry in Thailand. Both of organizations protect and build consumer confidence in the Muslim world in compliance with Halal standards in different countries.
The signatory in cooperation of the agreement between the Central Islamic Committee of Thailand and Halal Certification Services (HCS) is to build confidence and share information to help each other in terms of organizing regulatory standards and Halal system between 2 countries and also establishing numerical standards of product’s code.
Mr. Pichate Satirachaval, Secretary General, The Central Islamic Committee of Thailand, said "The signing of this MOU is cooperation that is crucial, because Switzerland is one country in the group of EU countries, which has strong system in the food safety standards and has strong cooperation in several areas. Not only sharing knowledge and experience for consumer protection safeguards, especially Muslim consumers, but also enhancing the Halal standards and Food Safety Hygiene. This collaboration will lift up Halal’s standards of Thailand as well as for cooperation in trade between each other.
Mr. Anirut Smuthkochorn, Director of The Halal Standard Institute of Thailand revealed that to strengthen the Halal industry in Thailand we aimed to build customer’s confidence and satisfaction in Halal’s products manufactured in the country in order to drive internationally recognition and to serve Muslims around the world with approximately 1.900 million people or 25 per cent of world population. The demand of Halal food consumption values around U.S. $ 80,000 million per year. While Thailand has exported Halal products approximately 80,000 to 100,000 million baht per year or 0.25 per cent of the market share comparing the Halal food and products worldwide. As a result, the Halal market is very important and requires agencies to oversee the production of Halal food which its process needs to be accurate at the beginning until delivering to the consumer as required by Islamic faith to assure customer’s confidence.
